House Rules

So I was at my mom's this weekend, and my siblings are giving me hell for what they call, "some shit they woulda never got away with."

I don't see the big deal.

Ok, so I hung out with him (I know, I know). Spent the evening watching the fight with some friends, and chilling... spent most of the morning on a park bench talking. So around sunrise we head home. As my head hits the pillow, the shots of PatrĂ³n, and the glasses of Riesling finally hit me like sudden solutions. I soon surrender into dreamland, when I hear Hi Tek chirpin about The 'Natti (think Ohio, folks) on my cellie. It's a text msg from him saying he's locked out of his mom's crib. Looks like she got her deadbolt game tight before bed.

"Whatchu gonna do?"
"I called the house, called my sister, banged on the damn door."
"You can come here."
"You sure?"
"What am I gonna say, 'Hope you figure something out, B,' and hang up the phone?"
"You're sure it'll be ok with your mom?"
"She's still asleep, but I'll leave her a note. She'll be in church for most the morning, so it's all good."

He gets across town to the So Wise Upstate Estate in record time.

My mom is just getting up for church, so I tell her what's up and she says it's cool. Now I had considered taking him around the block to my brother's crib, but decided against it because, well, my brother doesn't like seeing me with boys. Whatev.

So I bring him up to my room, close the door, turn on SportsCenter, give him some scrubs to put on, and he's straight.

No need to get into the particulars...that's another blog for another day.

But long story short...we fall asleep for a bit, and wake up to the smell of curry chicken. My sister is over, cooking for Father's Day dinner. I go down to the kitchen while he gets dressed to leave, and I tell her what's up. She's like..."Huh?" So before he leaves I re-intro them and he bounces.

Of course she can't wait to tell. As soon as my family starts trickling in for dinner that afternoon she says, "Wise brought a BOY home last night!"

I keep saying..."He got locked out!"

My sister in law is particularly interested in the details ("Why you didnt bring him to my house?")...as are my brothers, who don't say nothing. They just listen.

"And it was THIS MORNING... NOT last NIGHT!"

They ignore the logical details and proceed with gasps and 'oh hell naws.'

I'm struggling to understand the root of this perceived infraction.

Was it inappropriate to have a man in my childhood bedroom with the door closed? [My answer, yes...15 years ago. Today? No...I am grown.

I'm normally pretty old school in this respect, having been raised by traditional West Indian parents who don't play that shit...but I'm finding it hard to understand why the uproar.

Is it really that they are clinging to a glimmer of hope that this man may soon make an honest woman of my no-longer-so-young, unwed black azz?

Are they just mad that they couldn't pull this off in their day?

Are my siblings just haters?

Or am I really as gully as they allege?

Can't call it.

PS ...Y'all so nosy...Naw, I aint hit.

That was gully. We all know you are thorough, now it's just confirmed. It wasn't bout you getting away with it, it was about you deciding as soon as he said he was locked out, "Come on over to my place" (he says with Jaheim's sing songy voice in his head.)

Naw you're ok. Even though, I don't have sisters or daughters, in talking with friends, when a situation like that happens,(especially in close proximity), they usually imagine their sister/daughter getting her "eggs scrambled" and that can be unbearable unless we're doing the scrambling to someone elses daughter (I just don't feel tact right now). I bet that crossed their minds. Of course, I don't know how well, at all they may know him. Your female relative of course was being naturally nosey. Also, I think you mentioned, your brothers couldn't bring girls home either. Hah! I believe you, but I bet that's some of what they thought. Sometimes you never really grow up to your siblings. (In their minds) I'm sure they mean well though. Anonymous Detroit.

come on! i will never get away w/this shit at my mom's house until i'm married. the young ones always get away w/it. i'm w/your sibs, I'M HATIN!!!!

I remember when my sister was pregnant with her first child. She wasn't married yet and my moms and grandma wouldn't let her and the fiance sleep in the same room. It didnt make sense to me, b/c obviously they already were sexually active, but it just wouldn't fly with them.

as someone who is the oldest sibling of a brother who gets away with 90% of the shit i can't get away with, the answer is yes, they hating. LOL

in my case, i hate because they treated us differently cuz i was female even though i was older. he had a later curfew, had female company in his room...shit like that.

but that was when i was a teen. hating now would be ridiculous. your sibs are being ridiculous. lol

you grown. if they trust you and know you they should know you ain't gonna do that in ya parents' house.

are you? HEHEHE

My mom let me sleep with my gf in the same room in her house bc she knew I wouldnt do anything due to the fact that I was home. But this was over Spring Break. When I was younger, I never would have even asked.

My sibling hates on what I do. I tell him that he is 14, I am grown. Thats all the explanation that is necessary.

I would never get away with this shit at mom's house unless I was married!

So...Wise...Sista said...

Slishy...so you saying Stughetto wouldnt get away with that at your parents' crib? lol

CNelly...I respect you for respecting my "thurlness." lol For real, for real tho, Ii never thought of it as something risque or disrespectful...but you right...ann opportunist, I am!

Detroit...It always amazes me to know the shit that my brothers would put brawds thru...so it never bugged me that they are so overprotective. Actually only one brother (and most of their friends) cares at all. The other brother could care less. But they also know that I do my dirt on the LOW, so that's prolly what makes them a bit nervous. lol

Jameil...But why??? Is it be there is an air of suspicion surrounded by my actions? If that's the case, it's not like I was scheming to bone dude right there under her roof! Or is it cuz that's what YOU woulda been tryin to do? lol Stop hatin!

TCas...that's some kind of denial! lol

Nikki...Oh I hate that double standard shit...as if the boy child can't just as easily...and perhaps is more likely to get a chick knocked up! My mom trusts me, and that's the only reason I even went there. But that is the beauty of it...I'm into abuse of power or anything, but I sure could have if I so desired!

Eps...See Eps, exactly. She knows you aint gonna do nothing...and even if you are gonna do something, you know enough to be discreet, right? You feel me! Of course your siblings are hating...they cant wait to be grown!

Paula...Does your mom trust you? If she thinks you're a hot azz then I can why it wouldn't fly...but if she knows you're cool, then shouldnt be an issue, right?

But damn, all you haters act like I invited him over for a rendezvous! The boy was locked out!

Mr.Slish said...

HELL NO!!!!

So...Wise...Sista said...

KZ...Be sure to mention that DUDE WAS LOCKED OUT! And see what she would suggest. THo I sense that her opinion would be biased bec she knows her son fancies the feast, if you know whatI'msayin. lol

Slishy...you just in 'big brother protect and serve' mode, just like my brothers. Damn West Indian men!

Knockout Zed said...

I'm sorry, locked out or not, my moms might wanna whup you.

I'd settle for spanking you.

Ummm... It's happened before with my older sister. My mom woke up while my two sisters were getting in from my bday party last year. My older sister had her fiance with her. They were too drunk and my baby sister, who was dd, was too tired to take them back to their house. My sister's fiance slept in my brother's old bed room. It wasn't a big deal.

But I do think if I had stayed out til the dawn and then had him in the house, it would have been a different story altogether. Mom might have sat there and tried to contact his people herself and taken him over there before he woulda been in my room in the bed with me sleep. That wouldn't happen.

That might have been a lil on the gully side.

I'm da oldest...and that might have been cool, but I wouldn't have been sleepin in the same bed..let alone room.

MOMS ain't going...She knows her son...lol

Is it really that they are clinging to a glimmer of hope that this man may soon make an honest woman of my young, unwed black azz?

Probably.

Are they just mad that they couldn't pull this off in their day?

Definitely.

Are my siblings just haters?

Naturally.

Or am I really as gully as they allege?

Can't call it - do you and let the rest take care of itself.

Jameil said...

hell naw! still hatin!! b/c i could absolutely see my sister get away w/this shit. matter of fact, her best male friend can chill in her room and all other shit but mine can't even sleep downstairs (before we were anything but friends). i'm like FUCK THAT! I'M HATIN!!!!!!

So...Wise...Sista said...

KZ...now you're talking!

4ever...sounds like my kinda bday party. lol Gully? Maybe it was. Damn y'all got me second guessing my own gangsta!

YoungMontez...We're talking about YOU! Moms def knows your deal. lol
But that's the thing...my Mom knows me too. I aint wind up preggers yet, never been caught shoplifting, embezzling or drunk driving...but more importantly, I was NEVER a hot azz, so she trusts me. lol

Oscar...finally the voice of reason!

Jameil...I an empathize with ya...I'm the youngest but I'm generally appalled at what I see my nieces and nephews get away with...and I can TOTALLY see my niece pulling the same shit I did...except with ill intent, wit her lil fast tail. :)

Liq...HAHAHAHA. But if you knew the history on this cat you'd be giving a sigh of relief. Trust!

nopes my parents are hella old school...

now my grandmother on the other hand was much more liberal.

you're lucky, I would've probably gotten put out!

ok, I just read the 5 parter! That was an intense story.

I retract my previous statement. I'm glad you didn't give that boy any. If he wants some deep dish, he better go to Chicago.

So...Wise...Sista said...

Liq says "deep dish"...Classic!

That story to me rivals the 5 parter Brady Bunch Hawaii episodes. Only I was the one wearing the tiki. ::duh duh duh duh duhhhhhhhh::

You bought a boy inside your bedroom at your parents house. Dayum. You're grown, but not that grown. Lol. My mom is cool, but I know a lot of parents who would not have been cool with that.

I must say...I dont know if I would done it. I think homeboy would had to grab a blankie and hit the couch.

If only, because the jokes by my fam would have made me want to curse somebody.
