"I've been involved in three projects pitched to (Oprah), but I've never been asked to participate," the 36-year-old told the magazine in its July issue. "For Barbershop she had Cedric the Entertainer and Eve on, but I wasn't invited. Maybe (Oprah)'s got a problem with hip-hop. "
~Ice Cube...[another legend shitting himself at the prospect of releasing (another) album ("Laugh Now, Cry Later") the same week as some superstar too young to know he was ever a rapper.]
So what's Eve, jackazz...a lil bit country??

ice cube is more concerned with the film industry than music i think. Oprah is as oprah does. I always think of him in Boyz inthe hood. he was awsome in that. ok. Cut the reverend off from the Bushmils singla malt. espeically since he has to play some silly ass smooth jazz fesival tomorow inthe AM> that just goddamn wrong. noone hould be playing drums before noon, yet i will be. not spiritually tho. i'lll have to dr....

yo i'm sick of all the rappers whining b/c oprah doesn't care about them... excuse me? can you name one rapper who would admit to watching her show and helping her earn or spend millions and billions? huh? you can't? yeah that's what i thought. i hate to quote lil kim, but, shut up bitch! damn i'm tired of them. the only reason you're being mentioned is b/c you're talking about oprah. PUBLICITY STUNT.
I would like to know why he wasn't asked to appear, I mean he was one of the main characters. Just a thought? Cuz she didn't want Luda on the show either.
I read an article (I think it was in XXL) like 8 years ago, called "Does Ice Cube Still Matter." He didnt then and he doesnt now. If this dude thinks he's hip hop, then he got another thing coming. He is now an actor who occasionaly raps about things he doesnt do anymore. Time to grow up and be a man. Accept that you aint the same person you used to be and stop whining about being slighted. Just my opinion.
Shame on you Rev for not bringing enough hooch for the whole class!
Yup...Cube is an actor now. And although he got there via music, no one over 25 cares!
Jameil...exactly. Like 50 said, her audience are his audience's parents. What the hell they got to do with her?? They talk all this shit, but no good and well they were hating on Kanye when his black azz was up on there rapping. Publicity stunt, of course. He's got an album (that no one's checking for) coming. But to give him the benefit of the doubt, FHM mag was probably responsible for bringing it up.
Young Montez...He was indeed one of the main characters on the show, even a producer, no?...but he was also the most boring, least compelling of them all. What the hell she need him on there for if she can get Ceddie! And of course you gotta have the female star and Eve is as "hip hop" as they come.
As for luda...do you truly believe that if she didn't want him on the how he woulda been within 100 yards of her studio? To be fair, Crash was an ensemble cast, and Lorenz Tate, Ryan Phillipe and Brandan Frasier didn't make it to the show either.
That's real talk TCas...personally if I had to pick a rapper from his ear who would be a huge movie star and producer Cube wouldnt be on my top 20 list of guesses. But here he is, Will Smith'in' it. But ya know it seems that the only rappers that truly matter today are the ones doing it bec it's their one and only hustle. The day Little Brother or Black Thought get Hollywood, it's a wrap.
I love/hate rainy Saturdays!
I dont think she likes rappers. And thats her perogative. But so stuff like this doesn't taint her, she should give them some say so. Why didn't she have Ice Cube on? But like jameil said, I dont see any of them inviting her to the video shoot, either. A lot of rappers have charities or nonprofits they run, a POSITIVE publicity stunt for all involved would be to do something in conjunction with that.
but really all the rappers are doin is throwin salt... She fucking Oprah and her audience doesn't listen to rap. We, people who are into the music, are the only ones who really care that much.
Least compelling...I can't agree with you on that one big sis. I mean he was a black man, raising a family and owned a business that has been passed down from pops. He was the leader of the barbershop, which meant he in a lot of ways was the representative for that portion of his block. An image that as a black man, needs to be seen.
And as far as Cube being hip-hop, I agree he shouldn't be rapping now. But he is still a figure within the hip hop community. When Spike Lee stops making movies, are we gonna say that he should have nothing to do with film making and is no longer relavent. I mean Cube is one of the greats, and shouldn't be slighted in hip hop talk, unless he makes an Are We There Yet II.
Jennaynay...I take her word for it when she publicly says she's not opposed to hip hop. I'm a lifelong fan and defender, but what's there to like?? Eff a rapper. I think most rational adults have the same gripes about rap as O. I'm afraid Cube's flattering himself if he thinks he's that damn compelling.
Shows her savvy tho to counter the attacks by slumming it on Power 106 with Ed Lover and seizing the opportunity to plug her Legends Ball special. Now that's gangsta.
Young...Yes, least compelling. He was the worst actor, and his part was the corniest. Even the African was funnier than Cube. lol If I had a choice btwn him, a funny dude who does impressions, and a fashionable female rapper, to entertain my audience, I know who I'd book.
I still respect his legacy...but judging by his new single "Why We Thugs" I'm gonna put my dough on this go 'round being irrelevant. Difference btwn Cube and Spike is that Spike's filmmaking wasn't at all compromised by his Mars Blackman commercials, his courtside season tickets, or his children's books. Now what would be a shame is if Spike has never been on Oprah (which I can't confirm or deny).
What the fuck is Cube talkin' about nowadays anyhow?
I tell my young friends this all the time: I'm 35, I got responsibilities, and I like to listen to music that either a) reflects my life or teaches me something, or b) Makes me feel good.
The misery of the Black community is no longer entertaining to me as it was when I was 18. The old NWA shit brings back the feelings I had when I first heard it. A 2006 version of that ignorance just makes me cringe.
Shit, Cube is at least as old as I am.
